the thing that pops up is called Microsoft visual C++ runtime library

ABNORMAL PROGRAM TERMINATION

Starwars knights of the old republic?
Something you could check is your system requirements (video/graphics card, sound card, RAM). If they don't meet KotOR's minimum requirements, it'll simply not work right. It should say the system requirements on the back or bottom of the box. You can also check in the troubleshooting section of the manual.

Actually, your computer will still function normally even if you uninstall all of these, but it will be bald as new.

Try a couple of safe mode starts first. ~

If that doesn't do it, you have a damaged file in your word folder which needs to be replaced.

Hi, still with ActiveX control problems while using Yahoo Messenger?

I have uninstalled Yahoo and Yahoo messenger 2 times. Went to the custom level security tab under Internet options and made sure the setting for scripting and others were enabled. Windows Firewall has the exception for Yahoo Messenger. The error window that appears when I try to chat shows the following:

Microsoft Visual C++ run time library error

Run time error!

Program:C:\PROGRA~1}Yahoo!}MESSEN~1\

YAHOOM~1.EXE

R6025

Pure virtual function call

I ran Microsoft Defender and shows no virus, worm or spyware

Antivirus Avast running well and updated.

Erased all the temp files I could find

Erased some cookies

Don't know what else to do

Hi, still with ActiveX control problems while using Yahoo Messenger?
Try to delete the messenger directory manually and install again. Maybe the corrupt file is still there when you are uninstalling with control panel.

You might have a corrupt file in your Yahoo! Messenger directory. To fix the problem, you must manually delete the "Messenger" directory on your C: drive (default), then reinstall the Yahoo! Messenger application.

To delete the directory:

Close the Yahoo! Messenger application if you currently have it running. Make sure all instances of Internet Explorer are closed.

Go to your desktop and double-click "My Computer."

Click the "C:" drive.

Go to:

C:\Program Files\Yahoo!

Highlight the Yahoo! Messenger folder and press the Delete key on your keyboard. (All archives will be deleted if they are not copied. Please see below.)

To install:

Close all running applications except for your Internet browser.

Visit the Yahoo! Messenger home page.

Click the "Download Now" button.

To copy your complete Message Archive:

Close Yahoo! Messenger (if it is currently running).

Go to your Desktop and double-click "My Computer."

Select the "C:" drive.

Go to:

C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles

Your "Profiles" folder contains your complete Message Archive. Copy it to the same location on another computer if you wish to view it elsewhere.

Note: If you copy this folder to another computer, your complete Message Archive will be copied, overriding the Message Archive on the computer to which you are copying.

Change program (using MODULUS OPERATOR)?

Well, it turns out. I have to use the MODULUS OPERATOR, and the math didn't work for Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 anyways. It worked on Dev C++, but at school we use Microsoft.

Here's what I have so far for the program, all I need is the math for the nickels and pennies. The quarters and dimes seem to be working.

#include %26lt;iostream.h%26gt;

main()

{

int quarters;

int dimes;

int nickels;

int pennies;

int number;

cout %26lt;%26lt; "Enter a number. " %26lt;%26lt; '\n';

cin %26gt;%26gt; number;

quarters = number / 25;

dimes = number % 25 / 10;

nickels = I need help here

pennies = I need help here

cout %26lt;%26lt; "Quarters - " %26lt;%26lt; quarters %26lt;%26lt; '\n';

cout %26lt;%26lt; "Dimes - " %26lt;%26lt; dimes %26lt;%26lt; '\n';

cout %26lt;%26lt; "Nickels - " %26lt;%26lt; nickels %26lt;%26lt; '\n';

cout %26lt;%26lt; "Pennies - " %26lt;%26lt; pennies %26lt;%26lt; '\n';

cout %26lt;%26lt; '\n

return 0;

}

Change program (using MODULUS OPERATOR)?
Microsoft requires using namespace, replace the following line of code:

#include %26lt;iostream.h%26gt;

with this one:

#include %26lt;iostream%26gt;

using namespace std;

How do I link a .cpp to a .obj?

I created and compiled a C++ program in Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express. I have both the .cpp and the .obj and I want to make it a .exe to run it. So can I do this with Viusal C++ or do I write another program?

How do I link a .cpp to a .obj?
In VS go to the build options. In the options, set the build to "release" and not debug. The next time you build, it'll make an ".exe" file for you in the \release folder.

Help me pleaaaase? Xxxx

Computer Help!?
Wow, all these programs are for networkers or programmers. If you have no need I'd suggest saving them on a CD (cause you never know when you might need it) and just uninstall it from your computer. If they aren't affecting your computer, space wise, them just leave them there.
Reply:None look deletable to me.
Reply:leavem them there they are windows updates
Reply:They are essential applications for windows.

Don't mess with them at all.
Reply:Leave the files alone. They are necessary. Serif will not harm your computer.

What are/Do I need these programs?

I'm going through my control panel add/remove programs so I can make some room on my computer, and I don't know what all the programs are so here are some I don't know, just tell me what they are and if I need them on my computer, thanks. Oh also what are other ways to get more room on my computer?

1. Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX

2. Adobe Reader 8

3. Conexant HD Audio

4. DivX Codec

5. DivX Content Uploader

6. DivX Convertor

7. DivX Player

8. DivX Web Player

9. ESU for Microsoft Vista

10. HP Customer Experience Enhancments

11. HP Easy Setup FrontEnd

12. HP Photosmart Essential 2.0

13. HP QuickPlay 3.2

14. HP Total Care Advisor

15. Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1

16. Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistibutable (2 of this one)

17. MSCU for Microsoft Vista

Also do documents take up room on my computer? and how much room? Because I could go through old ones.

* And if I uninstal Microsoft Works when I have OpenBook will I not be able to open my documents

What are/Do I need these programs?
The adobe you need for opening pdf's. The Divx you need for dvd playback and recording. Most of the HP ones you can get rid of, but you might need them later. I am not sure what the others are. Documents do take up room, but not very much. I don't know about the openbook question but if it opens documents, you can probably uninstall works and use it instead. The adobe flash player is used for playing some games and is required for some websites.

To free up room, you can do disk cleanup and defragment. Videos and pictures take up the most room and audio files take up a lot of room.
Reply:9 15 16 and 17 are essential for windows. 4 i would keep 5-8 are pretty much just another media player not needed. 3 is your audio. 10-14 are junk. 1 and 2 are worth keep many documents use adobe. documents are data so yes they take up room amount depends on how much info and type.

Computer memory help?

Ok, I have a DELL Inspiron 600m laptop and recently I have been getting messages that say "Windows Low on Virtual Memory".

Then today I was trying to type something up in Microsoft Word, and a message came on the screen that said " Microsoft Visual C++ Library" as it' title and then it said "Runtime Error! Program : C: \Program Files\Microsoft Office\ Office 11\ WINWORD.EXE , abnormal program termination.

I deleted some programs and things, but that still didn't work. Does anyone else have this problem or know what is wrong? What should I do?

Computer memory help?
Try switching off some of the icons on the lower right of the screen! You may be running too many programs at once! If not, check your RAM count in MY computer! What is happening is your computer is trying to use memory from your hard drive! You may have a small hard drive, so utilize it well! If you have less than 512MB of RAM, try to get it to that number at least. Try to think about the programs that you really don't need, and uninstall them! Music videos, music, movies, pictures etc, think about those too! You more than likely can be suffering Internet clutter with temporary files, so go into the control panel, switch to category view and go into performance and maintenance . Clean your hard drive up! The number one reason why most computers slow down and start acting funny, is the lack of maintenance. Take care of your computer, so you can enjoy it for some time to come!
Reply:Increase the size of your pagefile. Here's how: Right-click on "My Computer" and click "Properties". Click the "Advanced" tab, and under "Performance" click the "Settings" button. Under the "Advanced" tab, under "Virtual Memory" click "Change". Here you can change the size of your pagefile. Choose a custom size and make it larger than your current settings. I'm not sure if it matters, but try to make the numbers a power of two. For example, 256, 512, 1024, 2048. This should eliminate any error messages about virtual memory.
Reply:Sounds like your machine is coming to the end of its career.

Your Hard drive may be failing. (common file access errors.)

Your Ram ma be failing (normally that results in a BSOF.)

Hard drive space is at a premium and the system has no room to write the swap file.

Desk errors are part of hard drive failure. (back up your personal files and reinstall to a new hard drive)

Regardless back up your personal files
Reply:you have to much software running at one time is the problem you need to buy more ram put more in the pc then you can run a lot of software at the same time
Reply:wat u need to do is buy more RAM which makes ur computer faster and able to run more programs at once.,.. when RAM(basically called virtual memory) gets low ur comp starts to go slow and cant run many programs at once so if u get more RAM and maybe some more hard drive space you should be fine.. hope this helped ya
Reply:You must upgrade your computer memory module

I believe you should get at least 1GB and that way you will definitely wont get that message

This is the latest C++.

I think the problem might be that you used Magic ISO. It uses a file type all its own. I could be completely wrong though. After I read your question I made an ISO with Image burn and VLC played it fine.
Reply:It doesn't have to be in ISO format you can also just play it in mp4, wmv, w/e the format is also check if the file aint broken.

New laptop help?

OK, I was just wondering how much a good laptop would cost me, I really only need the following:

I am only a student so it doesn't need to be a brilliant laptop.

wireless internet

cd writer

windows home

3 usb ports

and be able to have the following software installed comfortably

Adobe photoshop elements 2.0

macromedia flash

WeBuilder

The SIms 2 and extension packs

itunes

microsoft visual c#

and maybe some other graphicy kinds of programs and computer programming and web design

I am only really going to be doing the following on it

web design

graphics design and creation (for web sites and a bit for other)

Itunes for my Ipod

Bits of computer programming (microsoft visual c#)

Web surfing

And some school or college related tasks (Word processing, spreadshhets etc.)

Also, I am only 13, so IF this were bought, it might have to last a while, which I wouldn't really mind about as the only things probably being added would be extensions. I would like a reliable make and model, also

New laptop help?
Flash and The Sims are going to be the things that stretch your laptops capability; all the other programs are pretty standard. If you want a bit of straight advice you're going to have to forget any games on a budget laptop. If you ditch the Sims you'll get a reasonable laptop that can manage Flash and Photoshop. Go for the Pentium 4 equivalent and 1 gig RAM and you can run all that comfortably.

I don't use one so can't suggest a good brand or spec.
Reply:You're looking at around £600 at the least, and try and get a wireless one, so you can surf in mcdonalds ( spits ).

If i had a second chance id go for a small laptop , maybe a 12" screen, the one ive got now 15.2" , is too big.

Just do a google for cheap wireless laptops .. then search for a review on it if you find one.
Reply:well i think you need a full package and a lot of software you may have to purchase separately or download but i got a laptop at Xmas for only £350 and i had probably spent £150 on software and that is only for home use so I'm afraid unless you know anyone who sells them or if you can find someone to sell a recon then its gonna be a few quid sorry to say

Reply:Yes, the sites mentioned above are worth the look, indeed. But I would like to mention that since you have graphics processing planned, you should be sure to get a laptop that has a fairly good video solution, and you should also be sure to get more than 512 ram.

You should get an answer there, it should be quick to sign up (it was for me) but I am going to have to say NO because you meet the requirements but the system's Ram may not be enough and the processor is outdated (no offense) but C++ can get tedious at times and you dont want a slow computer to amke it worse. You still can use it but I'd so upgrade for the convenience
Reply:iwhat other details do you want? you meet the requirments so yes =]
Reply:No. Here are thr requirements:

512MB RAM

300 MB of free hard disk space, plus an additional 300 MB during installation for download and temporary files

100 MB of hard disk space for the virtual memory paging file. Be sure to use at least the minimum amount of virtual memory recommended by the operating system.

Including header files in the subdirectories?

Hi,

I am using Microsoft Visual C++ Express edition 2005 for writing a program. I needed an xml parsing library and i chose to use the Xerces libraries. The problem is that the header files are located in my D:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\VC\include\xercesc directory. the search path for the include files includes the path till D:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\VC\include so the compiler doesnt search within the xercesc directory and i am getting file not found error when i use #include%26lt;xercesc\utils\Platformutils.hpp... How to make the compiler search within the subdirectories of the included paths???

Also is the statement

#include%26lt;xercesc\utils\Platformutils.h...

correct??

Including header files in the subdirectories?
Use within double quotes ... dontuse %26lt;

include "dirname/filename.h"

I searched for the terms iostream, iostream.h, %26lt;iostream%26gt;, and #include %26lt;iostream%26gt; on my computer, but i got back nothing. Also, I personally searched in the program file called Microsoft Visual Studio, nothing there either. Can someone please give me the adress (as in C:\Program Files.....) for the iostream library? or maybe an idea as to where to look?

also, I'm using Windows XP, if that helps.

Where is the iostream file located?
Here is a path on my Visual Studio 8 (2005)

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\VC\include

Hope that helps

RJ
Reply:On my system,

c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VC98\Include

E-mail me if you want me to send it to you.
Reply:I'll make two points worth noting. The first is, when looking for any of the standard library files (like iostream), look for it in the compiler's default include directory. You should see a folder somewhere in the Visual C++ folder for Include, so that's where it is. Because this is Visual C++ 6 (old), it's iostream.h, not iostream. I really recommend getting a modern compiler like MinGW or Visual C++ 2005.

Also, there is a second note worth mentioning. You aren't going to see source code in the iostream file. It has already been compiled and gets linked in when building your code. You will only see the headers, which contains some constant definitions, typedefs, and inlined code.

It means there's a bug in Symantec Antivirus or Norton Internet Security.

Either that, or it is not co-operating with Firefox.

If you have other anti-viruses, just leave one - they often conflict with each other.

Run Symantec Live-Update, reboot and if it doesn't help, disable all add-ons in Firefox, then bring them on one-by-one to see which one causes the problem.

Let me know if it helped - I'm very curious about what's causing the trouble.

Help with a virus please?
First, get rid of Kaspersky and all the other Spyware programs you have. Do a Google search on Smitfraud Fix. Run that in safe mode. While in safe mode, go to Start%26gt;Control Panel%26gt;Internet Options%26gt;and delete Cookies and Temp Files on the General tab. Reboot into normal mode. Then download AVG Free and SUPER AntSpyware from majorgeeks.com, both are free. Run Super first, reboot and then run AVG. After AVG is done run Super again. If you are still having issues at that point, reinstall your visual studio software.

Question about Visual Studio .NET 2003?

Hi, I'm interested in learning C++. If I were to purchase Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 for Students, would I still be able to create regular C++ applications that Visual Studio 2003 does? Or would I have to use .NET syntax for all my C++ programs?

Question about Visual Studio .NET 2003?
With Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, you can write C++ programs that don't necessarily use the .NET framework.

But don't purchase MS VS .NET 2003 for learning purposes. Rather, download for free the MS VC++ 2005 Express Edition.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/expres...
Reply:Since C++ is objcet oriented you could easily transfer that skill through to C#. The syntax is unfortunately different. If you rather compile C you could use GCC
Reply:yes u can ...

Visual Studio 2008 for C++?

How does Visual Studio 2008 compare to 2005? Specifically for standard C++. Is the compiler more standard compliant now? Any major changes to the IDE for the c++ perspective?

I don't program C# or anything .NET so any refinements to the IDE for that language and the platform don't apply to me. Also, I have been wanting to try XNA and from the forums it seems it only works with VS2005 for the time being.

Currently I have VS2005 with SP1. In the past I have used MFC, but I've heard that is pretty much obsolete now. Through school I can obtain a free copy of VS2008 and I'm wondering if I should spent the time to upgrade.

Please only answer this question if you have knowledge about the subject. No links to Microsoft or Wikipedia please. And Yes I already searched previous answers on this site.

Visual Studio 2008 for C++?
I use both 2005 and 2008 professional at work, and both 2005 and 3008 express at home (although my home use is almost exclusively C# and XNA). The link below is someone else's answer to this question, I myself have yet to notice any major difference in day-to-day usage.

You're correct in that XNA currently only supports 2005, this can cause problems if you have both 2005 and 2008 installed (some of the XNA samples automatically install their template on the latest version of DevStudio, i.e. the wrong one).

Microsoft provide "Express" versions of C++, C#, VB, Web Developer and SQL Server for both 2005 and 2008 editions. They're totally free to download and you can also use them in commercial products (see the second link below). The main difference is that their template support isn't quite as good and they lack some small extras like IDE macro recording/playback.

Is the anything cool i can create with no cost using the program microsoft visual basic 2005 express edition?
You can develop pretty much anything in Express Edition for yourself - one of the main limitations of Express is that you can't create programs that are optimized to be deployed widely, like a published software program. But as far as raw coding, you are not limited from developing any particular kind of software. Web sites like http://www.pscode.com/ have lots of sample projects and code for all kinds of applications.
Reply:check http://www.pscode.com for great source code samples of all kinds of projects.
Reply:Yes-there's a couple of starter kits that come with the Express edition.

I organized my DVD collection using the Amazon enabled DVD collection project that I downloaded from the Microsoft website.

What are the commands to make randomized math Q&A problems using microsoft visual basic?

I am making a game which consists of 5 problems(1+1=?, 5 x 6=?) and 3 choices(a.3 b.78 c.80) but I dont know how to randomize the questions and choices...pls help

What are the commands to make randomized math Q%26amp;A problems using microsoft visual basic?
You have to place the questions and answers in arrays.

Dim questions(10) as string

Dim answers(10) as string

questions(1) = "1+1"

answers(1) ="2"

questions(2) = "3x7"

answers(2) ="21"

Next you need to use a procedure:

Public PickQuestion()

x=int(10*rnd(1)): if x%26lt;1 then x=1

Label1.caption=questions(x)

For the command button when it is clicked the procedure code would be:

if text1.txt = answers(x) then msgbox("correct")

Visual C++ Programmers, I really, really need your help... please...?

In my current program development, I am currently assigned to fix a bug where when user closes an application (Window), it will display a messagebox with 3 buttons namely debug, Send Error Report and Don't Send. In my previous solutions, I used TerminateProcess, TerminateThread and Navigate2("about:blank"). TerminateProcess works well but the activeX control inside the application is not closed properly, though I have terminated the application (e.g. application is no longer available in task manager) but in my test page, OCX is still running... :(

What makes the problem worst is that the application does not have an OCX embedded (Microsoft Internet Browser), therefore I cannot create an object to it. But what contains my application are running OCX embedded from a dll and javascript programs that are separated from the application I am working... So in other words, I open the application using browser, it will terminate OCX and application properly but if application, OCX is not ...

Visual C++ Programmers, I really, really need your help... please...?
It sounds like you're embedding the OCX in some type of IE framework. You have to close IE gracefully. Have you tried sending the IE window a WM_CLOSE message?

The usual problem is a bad download. The solution is to download it again. If you're using anything other than your browser to download it, that downloading program could have caused the problem.

Help compiling in Visual C++ Studio 2005?

This may sound like a stupid question, but when I try to compile code, the compile option is greyed out. I've never written a program before, and I'm trying to learn C++. It turns out the program I'm trying to use to compile it is more complicated than the coding itself. I've tried with both a "New Project", and with a "New File" alone. I've tried reading the help files, but they give very little help, as with most Microsoft products. I'm about to give up, so if anyone knows of another/better C++ compiler that is free, please point me to it.

Help compiling in Visual C++ Studio 2005?
// here's what I did with the VC 6 "intro edition":

1.) Open Visual C++ and click "file" and "new" from the main menu.

2.) Click "Win32 Application"

3.) Fill in the project name and location in the appropriate dialog boxes.

4.) Click "OK" , "finish" and "OK" to set up an empty project.

5.) Click "file", "new", "C++ source file" .

6.) Name the file, click "OK" and cut N' paste the following:

#include %26lt;windows.h%26gt;

int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow)

{MessageBox(NULL, "Goodbye, cruel world!", "Note", MB_OK);return 0;}

7.) press the %26lt;F5%26gt; key and "OK" to compile and execute.

Hope this works for you. What you ought to get is a little popup window that can be dragged around, minimized and closed. DOS stuff is in the realm of "Console Application" projects. This is probably where one would want to start if they are just learning C.

Don't feel bad if Visual C++ seems frustrating - because it is. I spent six years studying Windows API and MFC classes and still can't program much more than "combo boxes". These are easy if one lets Microsoft manage everything but really hard to do if one wants to code everything from scratch - and Micro$ isn't going to be much help assisting you if you try and figure out how their little black boxes work..

There are quite a few "open source" compilers and the best appears to be the DevC compiler by bloodshed. It has its own nice User interface, so just type and compile and be happy. Open Watcom is another popular (READ: "free") compiler. Boorland is the other major player as far as expensive, commercial compilers go. Microsoft has "bundeled" it's latest development suite to include BASIC and a strange C/BASIC hybrid known as "C#", which is what their "NET" framework is all about. Finally, LINUX comes with its own compiler known as "GCC" and there are DOS versions of this if one likes a nice black %26amp; white, totally command line driven environment. Do be aware that if one goes this route, they will need to know a few things about "makefiles" and "compiler switches" if one desires to write anything sophisticated.

BTW: I learned the fundamentals of "C" from something I found on some hard drive I dug out of a bargain bin. Besides a narritive of some guy's divorse, it contained the "learn C" compiler written in 1986. This was so primitive it didn't even have the ability to save executable files, it mearly compiled code .

hope this helps %26amp; good luck!
Reply:I would reccomend dev c++ as a c++ compiler. As a first language, I would not reccomend c++ largely for this reason. I have always recommended ruby as a good first language because it is so standardized and you get the compiler from like ruby.com and tuts will teach directly for that compiler. It allows you to get over the learning curve of programming without the learning to use the compiler hassle.

I personally use dev c++ most of the time, but msvc++ when working with directx.
Reply:You can't "Compile" (Ctrl/F7) unless you've selected a .cpp source file. In general, though, you usually do a Build Solution to compile and link evertyhing in the program. Compile compiles only that one source module..
Reply:Try reinstalling it.
Reply:When it comes to professional developer tools (any profession's tools for that matter), the expectation is that either you are knowledgeable enough to know how to use it or are a capable individual who can learn quickly. I say this because you think jumping compilers will magically solve your problem. It won't, as you do not have the requisite knowledge (or the experience of a developer) to suddenly start working on any compiler you get.

In Visual Studio, projects are stored in solutions. So here's how it works.

Solution

- multiple projects

- each project contains multiple files pertaining to that project.

You need:

- a solution

- a C++ console project within that solution

- your code files within that c++ project.

You should be able to accomplish the above by starting a new project. Make sure you allow it to create a solution (there should be a checkbox to that effect).

How can you write your initials in C#?
ok so input your name. there is a function i am not sure what it is called but you can do a search for it..it will store the first letter of a string into a variable. so you could input your first name, middle, and last name into three different variables. then find the first letter of each and put them into three different variables. then you can concatenate them together and output them.
Reply:std::cout %26lt;%26lt; "insert INITIALS here" %26lt;%26lt; std::endl;

I have problems with dynamic mem. al. in C++. It's a row for you,but the end of a three-day affliction for me.
1) Could it be you're asking for too big of a size? Use smaller values until the problem stops, if it does.

2) Is the value negative?

3) If this problem doesn't go away, check to see if there is by some chance some file that has overridden the new operator. This is a very odd situation, but has been known to happen.

!!All C/C++ programmers should click here!!?

Which is a better compiler----Dev C++ or Microsoft Visual Express 2008?

Why?

Which one do you use?

Can you please explain me classes?

The most exhaustive answer gets 10 points!

(But dont just copy-paste frm another website coz i will be putting the thing in quotation marks to Google it)

!!All C/C++ programmers should click here!!?
Dev C++ isn't a compiler. It is an IDE. It uses MINGW, which is based off of GCC.

So are we talking compiler or IDE? With that said, Microsoft latest compilers 2005 and 2008 are excellent, and they are ANSI compliant, so that argument about being proprietary is bs. Sure you can down that path, but you are not required. The only quirk I have found between the two was in a student's program, where when compiled in Dev-C++ it caused the OS to throw an exception, and it didn't in Microsoft. My conclusion was based on the code, that Microsoft compiler initialized the variable with 0, and thus prevented the exception; whereas, GCC didn't. You can look at this as either good or bad.

Now as far as IDEs, Visual C++ is slower to load, but beyond that it is far superior to Dev-C++, especially when it comes to debugging. The debugger in Dev-C++ is still problematic. The intellisense in Dev-C++ is also much slower than that with Visual C++.

I personally usually have more than one compiler, and have both of these installed, plus some others, but if you were only going to go with one I would go with Microsoft's. I also find Visual Studio's error messages to be more verbose and precise.

Classes are only part of C++, and not C. They are used to support object-oriented programming. Object-oriented programming is programming in which data and the particular functions that perform work on that data are combined into structures called classes that act as a blueprint to make objects.

Classes are very similiar to structures. In object-oriented programming, you make objects. For example, you can make a class called Car. This car has variables to hold the make, model, and year of the car in the class. It also has methods or functions to perform operations on that class or change the data or state of that class. From this class Car, objects can be created. For the most part a class is a complex data type, just like int, bool, char. An object is an instance of the data type. It is like a variable name that is declared.(eg. int x)
Reply:I use Visual Studio because friend and foe agree that it's by far the best IDE out there. Admittedly, MS does not completely adhere to all standards (it's spelled 'proprietary' btw) but if you as a programmer are knowledgeable you can always force yourself to abide to standards.

And if you want a light footed compiler that adheres to standards, you should go for gcc... :-)
Reply:i use Dev C++ i tend to avoid Microsoft's propriatery stuff...

Microsoft usually adds their own set of garbage into the mix. Dev C++ has a much lighter footprint and is fully-functional.
Reply:I use Dev always have done and always will,

1) Good gui

2) It is not microsoft

I have it on my 2 desktops and my laptop, it is light and works on most OS even the old 95-Me for windows
Reply:When I was trying to learn C (I didn't get very far), I used dev C++

If C doesn't work out for you, try to learn BASIC. Yes, BASIC is old, but it's easy to learn.

If you want to hate your life and rue the day you first turned on a computer, then choose Visual Basic.

If you want to do some decent coding, then choose C++ - but it'll be tricky!

Burn Java to a crisp and bury it deep underground. Nobody needs Java.

Learn Delphi if you're interested in a fast production line - I've never known RAD to be more R.
Reply:1. Microsoft is not really evil - they doing business as anyone else does.

Plus without MS Windows OS we would be paying $2,000 for ugly OS to SUN/HP/IBM and still paying $15,000 for bad PCs to the same vendors.

2. Java is not slow - you need to tune JVM well

General idea - learn Java J2SE/J2EE first and .NET second.

Plus learn SQL, XML, etc

3. Get a IT job if you can - practice is what you need

RE: Writing C# in Microsoft Studio? (with code)?

Ok, so I have code included this time. (it took me 5 min to write it in VB but no luck with C#, and for the person who said you can't write C# in Visual Studio...you can, but thanks)

This is the VB code:

Public Class Form1

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

Dim radius As String

Dim area As String

Dim circumfrence As String

Dim diameter As String

Dim PI As String

PI = 3.1428

radius = TextBox1.Text

area = PI * radius * radius

circumfrence = 2 * PI * radius

diameter = radius * 2

Label3.Text = area

Label5.Text = diameter

Label7.Text = circumfrence

End Sub

End Class

I can set up the code in C# (this is for a windows application by the way) but it is being very stubborn in letting me take a users input and using it as a number. Thanks for any help! =)

RE: Writing C# in Microsoft Studio? (with code)?
Once you get the hang of it, C# is just as easy as VB

I've free-handing this, so I'm not sure it's going to be perfect..

I don't quite understand why you use strings for everything... numbers would be easier...

I use double.Parse() in here. this assumes you have entered good data. Look up TryParse to test your user's input...

Public Class Form1

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

double radius;

double area;

double circumfrence;

double diameter;

double PI;

PI = double.Parse(3.1428); //can't remember if you need to parse this

radius = double.Parse(TextBox1.Text);

area = PI * radius * radius

circumfrence = double.parse(2) * PI * radius

diameter = radius * double.parse(2)

Label3.Text = area.ToString();

Label5.Text = diameter.ToString();

Label7.Text = circumfrence.ToString();

End Sub

End Class

That's the gist. Use the Parse method... I dont' have VS in front of me and can't remember if you have to .Parse those constants, but it will still work if you do it.

Building a "Hello World" DLL using the Microsoft C++ compiler.?

Can anyone help me write a "Hello World" DLL console app. using MS C++ compiler ? Without using the Visual Studio .NET IDE.

(It seems to be next to impossible getting a simple answer for that question, by trawling the web)

Building a "Hello World" DLL using the Microsoft C++ compiler.?
Here are the steps:

1. Open the Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt window. Note: The Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt automatically sets up the correct path to the Visual C++ compiler and any needed libraries, so it is used instead of the regular Command Prompt window.

2. At the command prompt, type notepad and press Enter. In notepad select the File menu and save the file as hello.cpp and press Enter.

In Notepad, type the following lines:

#include %26lt;iostream%26gt;

using namespace std;

int _tmain()

{

cout%26lt;%26lt; "Hello World!! " %26lt;%26lt; endl;

return EXIT_SUCCESS;

}

3. On the File menu, click Save. You have created a Visual C++ source file. On the File menu, click Exit to close Notepad.

4. At the command line prompt, type cl /EHsc /LD hello.cpp and press Enter. The /EHsc command line option instructs the compiler to enable C++ exception handling while the /LD option sets the file output to a .DLL file.

Look in the folder where the hello.cpp file was saved and you will find a hello.dll file.
Reply:I'm not sure what you mean. Do you want a console app, a DLL, or a console app that calls a DLL?

A console app is simple. A DLL is a bit more work. I've never called a DLL from a console app, so I would have to check if that's even possible. Let us know what it is that you're trying to do.
Reply:just open a project ... write :

void main()

{

printf("Hello world");

}

and you are done

Problem with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. I'm not able to get all of the languages that I paid for. Help!

I need to know how to get all of the languages in this suite to function? They are C#, C++, VisualBasic, J# and the SQL database. The only one that I could ever use was C++. I was told by Microsoft that the .Net 2.0 framework is crippled, and they can't repair or replace the suite of software. Now that I'm out of all that money what can I do?

Problem with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. I'm not able to get all of the languages that I paid for. Help!
Are you making this up? Seriously, if you paid for VS 2005 (or if you had the money to pay for it), you would have to know how to click on file-%26gt;new project or solution or whatever it's called, and browse the list on the left hand side.

And what's this about Microsoft telling you 2.0 is crippled?

Does Anyone Know Anything About Microsoft C++ Programing 2005?

I just downloaded Visual Studio 2005 for my C++ class and I need to change my debugging location. When I did it the first time I told it to open it in Internet Explorer, but now I need to chance it because I cant view my work.

Can someone please direct me on how to change this?

And what should I select so that I can view it?

And please dont make any smart remarks. If you cant help me then just do not answer.

Debugger Project Settings: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library...

Explains how to specify debugger settings, how to set debug and release configurations, and how to manage symbols and source code. Also describes appropriate project settings for C++, C#, J#, and Visual Basic debug configurations, as well as web projects

Creating Debugger Visualizers with Visual Studio 2005

With debugger visualizers, you can define the information you would like to see about a specific .NET or custom class during debug mode. And as the name suggests, you can also choose how you would like to visualize these details.

http://www.devx.com/codemag/Article/2782...

Visual Studio 2005 has some pre-existing visualizers that you will discover during debug mode. You can access the visualizers by using a dropdown list on the left side of the new DataTips between the selection and its value. For example, if you point to a string object in Debug mode, or even an actual string, you will have access to three debugger visualizers: Text, XML, or HTML.

You can also access visualizers through the Watch windows. The DataTip's Watch window is where you can see the _stringvalue property of a StringBuilder object. When you select the XML visualizer, you will get a better view of the XML-formatted string

Your explanation is a little unclear, but I'll try to guess what you want.

Are you trying to design web pages, and you no longer want to debug them in Internet Explorer? OK, this is easy to fix:

With your project open, right click on any .aspx file in the solution explorer, and click 'Browse With...'. All installed web browsers should appear in a list. Click the one you want to use and click the buttom 'Set as Default'. You can now preview the page, or cancel and your settings remain when you save the project.

Note that debugging in IE with Visual Studio is easier, Visual Studio integrates better with IE.
Reply:Right click you project in "Solution Window" -%26gt; "Project Properties"

from the left tree view select "Build" and you will find a drop down menu to choose from.

Programming in C++?

I have Microsoft's visual c++ 6 installed in my computer. Could some one help me to understand how I can write a code and convert into binary. I am not asking for the code but for the procedure. I want step by step procedure like which command to start with a new project? After typing in the code how to compile ? How to pre process before compiling, Then how to save the binary file at the last. I feel a bit lost with the many software options.

C++/MFC compilation error, help (c++ newbie)?

hi, i'm trying to learn using MFC and the first example i tried out didn't compile on visual c++ 2005. here it is:

i created a win32 empty project and added one source file with the following:

---

#include %26lt;afxwin.h%26gt;

class CMyApp : CWinApp

{

public:

virtual BOOL InitInstance();

};

class CMyWindow : CFrameWnd

{

public:

CMyWindow()

{

Create(0, L"My first app, ehi2");

}

};

BOOL CMyApp::InitInstance()

{

m_pMainWindow = new CMyWindow;

m_pMainWindow-%26gt;ShowWindow(m_nCmdShow)...

return TRUE;

}

CMyApp App;

-------

when i compile it says:

"Error 1 fatal error C1189: #error : Building MFC application with /MD[d] (CRT dll version) requires MFC shared dll version. Please #define _AFXDLL or do not use /MD[d] c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\vc\atlmfc\include\afx.h 24 "

what should i do?

C++/MFC compilation error, help (c++ newbie)?
From a google search: http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread46...

And, you're writing MFC apps as a C++ newbie? That's terrible. You should learn C++ first before trying to do anything like MFC, GUI, win32 api, etc.
Reply:is this VC++ 2005 express, if it is AFAIK MFC is not supported on the express version
Reply:Its been a while since I have programmed C++ but off hand you might want to check and make sure you have all the libraries that you are using linked in the properties in Visual Studio.

C++.........which on is the better version of c++........?

1.Borland's Turbo C++ Explorer,

2.Microsoft's Visual C++ 2005,

3.Open Watcom C/C++ Compiler

i want to learn c++,please tell me a good website,which version should i have ?

C++.........which on is the better version of c++........?
I would personally recommend GCC's g++ which is free and open source. I don't know much about 1 and 3 but be very careful with VC++ as it can teach you very bad habits and does alot of things in a very nonstandard way. It does have a nice interface though :p

[1] is a version of GCC that will run on windows.
Reply:microsoft visual one is a good one.
Reply:Of those three, Microsoft's Visual C++ 2005 is by far the largest, most dominant, and best supported IDE. There are a few answers here telling you to use open source environments--I suggest you do NOT use the open source ones until you are more comfortable programming. While they have some nice features, the user interfaces often leave a lot to be desired.

One of the arguments against Visual C++ is that it costs money. This is no longer true: Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition is now free of charge. It does leave out a few features, but they're not anything you're likely to miss (MFC support, anyone?). Note that you may want to download and install the "Windows Platform SDK" as well, but that is also free.

One other answer also commented that Visual C++ is non-standard and can teach some bad habits. If you use the .Net mode then this is true (you will be given the option of whether to use .Net when you create new projects). The C++ used for .Net has many custom extensions that only Microsoft uses. When you are using normal C++, however, they have a very good standards compliant compiler (roughly equal to G++ on standards, and with much better optimization).
Reply:i recommend you visual c++, and you can simply go to the microsoft developer center of visual c++ to study, and they recommend you a lot a associated community website for asking questions

search the keyword

microsoft developer center visual c++

the software is downloadable from microsoft official website
Reply:For a begginer

Borland C++ is advisable

and you can easily run and learn

no need of much configurations in it..

All the best
Reply:srry i dont get
Reply:Go with DEV C++. Simple to use IDE, it's free, and for a begginer you can put it on a usb drive and carry it with you.
